1 John 1

¹That which was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our own eyes, what we gazed upon and our own hands handled—concerning the Logos of life— ²and this life was made visible, and we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you this eternal life—the life of the ages—which was with the Father and was made visible to us. ³What we have seen and heard we proclaim to you as well, so that you too may have a shared life with us; and indeed, our shared life is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus the Messiah. ⁴And we are writing these things so that our joy may be made complete.

⁵This is the message we have heard from him and report to you: God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all. ⁶If we claim to have a shared life with him while we walk in the darkness, we are lying and not practicing the truth. ⁷But if we walk in the light, as he himself is in the light, we have a shared life with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from every sin. ⁸If we claim to have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. ⁹If we acknowledge our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from every injustice. ¹⁰If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar, and his Logos is not in us.
