2 Timothy 1
1Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus through the will of God, in accordance with the promise of life found in Christ Jesus, 2to Timothy, my beloved child: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
3I am grateful to God, whom I serve with a clear conscience as my ancestors did, as I constantly remember you in my petitions night and day. 4I long to see you, remembering your tears, so that I may be filled with joy. 5I am reminded of your un-acted faith, which first took up residence in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am convinced lives in you as well. 6For this reason, I am reminding you to fan into flame the charisma of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but of power and love and self-mastery.
8So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me, his prisoner. Instead, join me in suffering for the gospel by the power of God. 9He is the one who saved us and called us with a holy calling—not because of our own deeds, but according to his own purpose and the grace given to us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time. 10This grace has now been made visible through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who broke the power of death and brought life and incorruptibility to light through the gospel. 11For this gospel I was appointed a herald, an apostle, and a teacher.
12This is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know the one in whom I have placed my trust, and I am convinced that he is able to guard the sacred trust I have committed to him until that Day. 13Hold to the sketch of healthy words which you heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 14Guard the good sacred trust committed to you through the Holy Spirit who lives within us.
15You are aware of this: everyone in the province of Asia has turned away from me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes. 16May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, because he often refreshed my spirit and was not ashamed of my chains. 17On the contrary, when he arrived in Rome, he searched for me with great diligence and found me. 18May the Lord grant that he finds mercy from the Lord on that Day! And you know very well how much he served in Ephesus.
