Hebrews 8

1The capstone of what we are discussing is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of Majesty in the heavens, 2a sanctuary-minister of the holy places and of the authentic tabernacle—the one pitched by the Lord and not by any human.

3Now, every high priest is appointed for the purpose of offering both gifts and sacrifices; consequently, it was necessary for this one also to have something to offer. 4If he were on earth, he would not even be a priest, since there are already those who offer the gifts according to the law. 5These priests serve a mere sketch and a shadow of the heavenly realities, just as Moses was divinely instructed when he was about to construct the tabernacle: See to it,” he says, that you make everything according to the pattern shown to you on the mountain.” 6But as it is, he has attained a far superior ministry, in proportion to the better covenant of which he is the mediator—a covenant that has been legally established upon better promises.

7For if that first covenant had been faultless, no place would have been sought for a second. 8But finding fault with the people, he says: Look, the days are coming,” says the Lord, when I will complete a new covenant for the house of Israel and for the house of Judah. 9It will not be like the covenant I made with their fathers on the day I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not remain faithful to my covenant, I in turn lost interest in them,” says the Lord. 10For this is the covenant I will establish with the house of Israel after those days,” says the Lord: I will place my laws into their minds and write them upon their hearts; I will be their God, and they will be my people. 11And they will absolutely not teach—each one his fellow-citizen and each one his brother—saying, Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. 12For I will be merciful toward their injustices, and I will never again remember their sins.”

13By saying New,” he has rendered the first covenant obsolete. And whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is on the verge of vanishing completely.
