Romans 5

1Therefore, having been made just by trust, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom we have also obtained access by trust into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in the hope of the glory of God. 3Not only that, but we also exult in our pressures, knowing that pressure produces endurance, 4and endurance produces vetted character, and vetted character produces hope. 5And this hope does not put us to shame, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

6For while we were still helpless, at the right moment, Christ died on behalf of the godless. 7For rarely will someone die on behalf of a just person—though perhaps for a good person someone might even dare to die. 8But God demonstrates his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died on behalf of us. 9Much more then, having been made just now by his blood, we will be saved through him from the coming wrath. 10For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, having been reconciled, we will be saved by his life. 11And not only this, but we are also exulting in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received this reconciliation.

12Because of this, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death spread to all people, because all sinned— 13for sin was in the world before the Law, but sin is not tallied when there is no Law. 14Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who is a type of the Coming One.

15But the gift of grace is not like the misstep. For if by the misstep of the one man the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift given by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many. 16And the gift is not like what happened through the one who sinned; for the judgment from one misstep led to a sentence of condemnation, but the gift of grace from many missteps led to a verdict of justice. 17For if, by the misstep of the one, death reigned through that one, much more will those who receive the overflowing of grace and the gift of justice reign in life through the one, Jesus Christ.

18So then, as through one misstep there resulted condemnation for all people, so also through one act of justice there resulted for all people a making just that leads to life. 19For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were rendered sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be rendered just. 20Now the Law slipped in alongside so that the misstep might multiply; but where sin multiplied, grace overflowed all the more, 21so that just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through justice into eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
