1 Peter 4
1Since Christ, then, suffered in the flesh, you must also arm yourselves with the same resolve; for the one who has suffered in the flesh is finished with sin. 2As a result, you should live the remainder of your time in the flesh no longer by human cravings, but by the will of God. 3For you have already spent enough time carrying out the desire of the nations: living in unbridled lusts, cravings, drunkenness, wild parties, drinking bouts, and lawless idolatries. 4They find it strange that you no longer run with them into this same flood of dissipation, and so they malign you. 5But they will have to give an account to the one who stands ready to judge the living and the dead. 6For this is why the good news was proclaimed even to the dead, so that although they were judged by human standards in the flesh, they might live by God’s standards in the spirit.
7The end of all things has drawn near. Therefore, be sound-minded and stay sober for the sake of your prayers. 8Above all, maintain an intense love for one another, because “love covers a multitude of sins.” 9Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. 10As each one has received a charisma, serve one another with it as good stewards of the diverse grace of God. 11If anyone speaks, let them speak as one uttering the oracles of God; if anyone serves, let them do so from the strength that God provides. This way, in all things, God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.
12Beloved, do not be surprised by the smelting fire among you that is happening for your testing, as though something strange were happening to you. 13Instead, to the degree that you share in the sufferings of Christ, rejoice, so that you may also rejoice with exultation at the revealing of his glory. 14If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are honored, because the Spirit of glory—the Spirit of God—rests upon you. 15Let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a social meddler. 16But if anyone suffers as a "Christian," let them not be ashamed, but let them glorify God in that name. 17For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins first with us, what will be the end for those who disobey the good news of God? 18“And if the just person is saved only with difficulty, where will the godless and the sinner appear?” 19Therefore, let those who suffer according to the will of God entrust their lives to a faithful Creator by continuing to do what is good.
