1 Peter 5
1So, I appeal to the elders among you, as a fellow-elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partner in the splendor that is about to be revealed: 2shepherd the flock of God that is in your care. Exercise oversight not because you are forced to, but willingly, as God would have it; not out of a greedy desire for shameful gain, but with a ready heart. 3Do not act like petty tyrants over those entrusted to your care, but become living models for the flock. 4And when the Chief Shepherd is revealed, you will receive the amaranthine crown of splendor.
5In the same way, you younger people, align yourselves under the elders. And all of you, tie on the apron of humility toward one another, because "God sets himself against the arrogant, but gives grace to the humble." 6Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, so that he may lift you up in due time, 7throwing all your anxiety upon him, because he cares for you.
8Keep a clear head; stay awake! Your legal adversary, the Accuser, stalks around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to swallow whole. 9Stand against him, solid in your faith, knowing that the same kind of sufferings are being brought to completion by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace—who called you into his eternal splendor in Christ—will himself repair, establish, strengthen, and ground you. 11To him belongs the sovereign power throughout the ages. Amen.
12Through Silvanus, whom I regard as a faithful brother, I have written to you briefly, encouraging you and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand fast in it! 13She who is chosen along with you in "Babylon" sends you greetings, as does my son, Mark. 14Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace to all of you who are in Christ.
