1 Timothy 2

¹I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people— ²for kings and all those who hold high office—so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all devotion and dignity. ³This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, ⁴who desires all people to be saved and to come to a full recognition of the truth.

⁵For there is one God, and one mediator between God and humanity: the man, Christ Jesus, ⁶who gave himself as a ransom-price for everyone—the testimony given at the proper time. ⁷For this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle—I am telling the truth, I am not lying—a teacher of the nations in faithfulness and truth.

⁸Therefore, I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up devout hands without anger or disputing. ⁹Likewise, I want the women to adorn themselves in respectable demeanor, with modesty and self-mastery, not with elaborate hair-braiding and gold or pearls or expensive clothing, ¹⁰but by means of good works, as is appropriate for women who profess a reverence for God. ¹¹Let a woman learn in quietness with all submissiveness. ¹²I do not permit a woman to teach or to dictate to a man; instead, she is to remain in quietness. ¹³For Adam was formed first, then Eve; ¹⁴and Adam was not the one deceived, but the woman, having been completely deceived, fell into transgression. ¹⁵Yet she will be preserved through the Child-bearing, provided they continue in faithfulness, love, and holiness, with self-mastery.
