1 Timothy 2

1I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people— 2for kings and all those who hold high office—so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all devotion and dignity. 3This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4who desires all people to be saved and to come to a full recognition of the truth.

5For there is one God, and one mediator between God and humanity: the man, Christ Jesus, 6who gave himself as a ransom-price for everyone—the testimony given at the proper time. 7For this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle—I am telling the truth, I am not lying—a teacher of the nations in faithfulness and truth.

8Therefore, I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up devout hands without anger or disputing. 9Likewise, I want the women to adorn themselves in respectable demeanor, with modesty and self-mastery, not with elaborate hair-braiding and gold or pearls or expensive clothing, 10but by means of good works, as is appropriate for women who profess a reverence for God. 11Let a woman learn in quietness with all submissiveness. 12I do not permit a woman to teach or to dictate to a man; instead, she is to remain in quietness. 13For Adam was formed first, then Eve; 14and Adam was not the one deceived, but the woman, having been completely deceived, fell into transgression. 15Yet she will be preserved through the Child-bearing, provided they continue in faithfulness, love, and holiness, with self-mastery.
