John 14

Do not let your heart be troubled. You trust in God—trust also in me. 2In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I am coming again and will receive you to myself, so that where I am, you also may be. 4And where I am going, you know the way.

Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?"

Jesus said to him, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7If you have come to know me, you will also know my Father. From this moment forward you know him and have seen him."

Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us."

Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you for so long a time, and you have not come to know me, Philip? The one who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'? 10Do you not trust that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak from myself, but the Father who remains in me does his works. 11Trust me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me—or if not, trust because of the works themselves.

Truly, truly I tell you, the one who trusts in me will also do the works that I do, and will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. 13And whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.

If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you forever— 17the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive because it does not see him or know him. You know him, because he remains with you and will be in you.

I will not leave you orphaned. I am coming to you. 19In just a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21The one who has my commandments and keeps them—that one is the one who loves me. And the one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will reveal myself to him."

Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, "Lord, what has happened that you are about to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?"

Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling place with him. 24The one who does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not mine but belongs to the Father who sent me.

These things I have spoken to you while remaining with you. 26But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name—he will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

Peace I leave to you. My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, and do not let it be fearful. 28You heard me say to you, 'I am going away and I am coming to you.' If you loved me, you would have rejoiced that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am. 29And now I have told you before it happens, so that when it does happen you may trust.

I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. And he has no claim on me, 31but so that the world may know that I love the Father, I do exactly as the Father has commanded me. Get up, let us go from here."
