John 14
"Do not let your hearts be agitated. Trust in God; trust also in me. 2In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I am coming again and will receive you to myself, so that where I am, you may be also. 4And you know the way to where I am going."
"Lord," Thomas said to him, "we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?"
"I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life," Jesus said to him. "No one comes to the Father except through me. 7If you all had known me, you would have known my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him."
"Lord," Philip said to him, "show us the Father, and that will be enough for us."
Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you all for so long, and yet you do not know me, Philip? The one who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10Do you not trust that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak from my own authority; rather, the Father who remains in me performs his works. 11Trust me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me—or at least trust because of the works themselves.
I am telling you the absolute truth: the one who trusts in me will also do the works that I do. In fact, they will do even greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. 13Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14If you ask me for anything in my name, I will do it.
If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Paraclete to be with you forever— 17the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive because it neither observes him nor recognizes him. You recognize him, because he remains with you and will be in you. 18I will not leave you as orphans; I am coming to you. 19In a little while, the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21The one who holds my commandments and keeps them—that is the person who loves me. And the one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them."
Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, "Lord, how is it that you are going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?"
Jesus answered and said to him, "If someone loves me, they will keep my word. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24The one who does not love me does not keep my words. And the word you are hearing is not mine, but belongs to the Father who sent me.
I have spoken these things to you while I am still remaining with you. 26But the Paraclete—the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name—he will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be agitated, and do not let them be afraid. 28You heard me tell you, ‘I am going away, and I am coming to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I. 29And now I have told you before it happens, so that when it does happen, you may trust. 30I will not speak with you much longer, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no claim on me; 31but I do this so the world may know that I love the Father, and I am doing exactly what the Father commanded me. Get up; let us go from here."
