John 14

¹Do not let your heart be troubled. You trust in God—trust also in me. ²In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? ³And if I go and prepare a place for you, I am coming again and will receive you to myself, so that where I am, you also may be. ⁴And where I am going, you know the way.

⁵Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?"

⁶Jesus said to him, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. ⁷If you have come to know me, you will also know my Father. From this moment forward you know him and have seen him."

⁸Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us."

⁹Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you for so long a time, and you have not come to know me, Philip? The one who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'? ¹⁰Do you not trust that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak from myself, but the Father who remains in me does his works. ¹¹Trust me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me—or if not, trust because of the works themselves.

¹²Truly, truly I tell you, the one who trusts in me will also do the works that I do, and will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. ¹³And whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. ¹⁴If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.

¹⁵If you love me, you will keep my commandments. ¹⁶And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you forever— ¹⁷the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive because it does not see him or know him. You know him, because he remains with you and will be in you.

¹⁸I will not leave you orphaned. I am coming to you. ¹⁹In just a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. ²⁰On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. ²¹The one who has my commandments and keeps them—that one is the one who loves me. And the one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will reveal myself to him."

²²Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, "Lord, what has happened that you are about to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?"

²³Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling place with him. ²⁴The one who does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not mine but belongs to the Father who sent me.

²⁵These things I have spoken to you while remaining with you. ²⁶But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name—he will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

²⁷Peace I leave to you. My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, and do not let it be fearful. ²⁸You heard me say to you, 'I am going away and I am coming to you.' If you loved me, you would have rejoiced that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am. ²⁹And now I have told you before it happens, so that when it does happen you may trust.

³⁰I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. And he has no claim on me, ³¹but so that the world may know that I love the Father, I do exactly as the Father has commanded me. Get up, let us go from here."
