John 21
After these things, Jesus revealed himself again to the disciples at the Sea of Tiberias. This is how he revealed himself:
Simon Peter, Thomas called the Twin, Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples were together. 3Simon Peter said to them, "I'm going fishing." They said to him, "We're coming with you too." They went out and got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing.
Just as dawn was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore—though the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. 5So Jesus said to them, "Children, you don't have any fish to eat, do you?" They answered him, "No." 6He said to them, "Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some." So they cast it, and they no longer had strength to haul it in because of the multitude of fish.
Then that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It is the Lord!" When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he wrapped his outer garment around himself—for he was stripped down—and threw himself into the sea. 8The other disciples came in the small boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, only about two hundred cubits.
When they climbed out onto the land, they saw a charcoal fire laid there, with fish laid on it, and bread. 10Jesus said to them, "Bring some of the fish you have just caught." 11Simon Peter went up and dragged the net onto the land, full of large fish—one hundred fifty-three of them. And even though there were so many, the net was not torn.
Jesus said to them, "Come, have breakfast." None of the disciples dared to question him, "Who are you?"—knowing that it was the Lord. 13Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and the fish likewise.
This was now the third time Jesus revealed himself to the disciples after being raised from the dead.
When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." He said to him, "Feed my lambs."
He said to him a second time, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." He said to him, "Shepherd my sheep."
He said to him the third time, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was grieved that he said to him the third time, "Do you love me?" And he said to him, "Lord, you know all things; you understand that I love me." Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep.
Truly, truly I tell you: when you were younger, you fastened your own belt and walked wherever you wished. But when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will fasten your belt and carry you where you do not wish." 19Now he said this to indicate by what kind of death he would glorify God. And having said this, he said to him, "Follow me."
Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following—the one who had reclined against his chest at the supper and had said, "Lord, who is the one betraying you?" 21Seeing him, Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, what about this man?"
Jesus said to him, "If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me." 23So this word went out among the brothers that that disciple would not die. Yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but rather, "If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you?"
This is the disciple who is bearing witness about these things and who wrote these things, and we know that his witness is true.
But there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written down one by one, I do not think the world itself could contain the books that would be written.
